Anth Tak 37- Dil Ki Girah Khol Do - 2

AnthTak37  had all of us head  our way towards Manak and Tara’s house.  The ambience was an inviting gaddi and cushion arranged colourful one. After everyone streamed in, the curtains opened to reveal a beautiful banner against a rich blue backdrop which read  ‘Anthtak Talkies present- Dil ki girah khol do-2’.  And do we need to open the knots of our heart to sing, mehfil mein koi ajnabee nahin jab, dil kholke geet gaane mein hichkenge hum kab?

 

As always, we sang our hearts out and the impressive list of songs that follow show the prowess of the group.  If the hearts sing, can the tapping of the feet be far away. With Manakji as our lead dancer and with Ram, Vijay and Chandra giving occasional company and Maria, Deepa and others swaying along, the evening turned out to be not only an aural treat but also a visual one. 

 

Amidst all the masti, the hot samosas, the sweets and the chai were doing the rounds in the evening. As the night progressed and with expending energy, the dinner was a fabulous spread of hot phulkas straight off the oven,  dumaloo, paneer makhani, pakodis,  dal, vegetable pulao, raita, salads, papad, pickle and moong dal halwa for dessert.  Dinner was a delightful experience indeed.

 

Thereafter in some other get together there may have been good byes but not at AnthTak.  We went back to our singing until the delicious deep, rich, brown chocolate cake arrived. Manak and Tara were given the honours of cutting the cake and everyone sang  ‘Happy birthday AnthTak’. The programme ended with ‘Kar Chale hum fida …’ to herald the true spirit of  independence day. 

 

We missed Jaina, Gopi, Geethika, Praneetha, Bharat and Vivek.  Special thanks to Praneetha for the brilliant banner and to Venkat for the title poster. Manak, Tara and Aditya had made it a memorable evening for one and all. Until we meet again at Anttak 38, let the music ring in our ears……

In all her modesty, Madhu as always does not add how integral her music, dance, her tidbits of information and her very presence means to Anth Tak. Thanks a ton Madhu for the wonderful write up, the unique way of stringing Lata’s songs in such a beautiful manner, the jhatkas and the nakhras

Awaaz De Kahaan Hai

 “Aawaz de kahan hai” - 

 The call for Anthtak to awaken from hibernation was music to the ears of all of us, as ‘Duniya hamari hamesha jawaan hai’. Feb 9^th 2013 evening turned out to be a memorable one indeed. Ram and Rama along with Ramya and Ramita are known for their ingenious ideas to create a musical ambience, and it is with much anticipation that we await the visual treat. 

This time, it was down memory lane and the décor had old collectibles and memorabilia. 36 Coming together of voices again welcomed the poster with the Anthtak logo proudly displayed on the right corner. Beautiful quotes on the virtues of music were put up and these thoughts were those of eminent people from different fields like Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore and the scientist who gave the world the theory of relativity, Albert Einstein. 

Old records some of them 35 years old like those of Chit Chor and Kabhie Kabhie were on display. There was a vintage radio set, a His Master’s Voice (HMV) record player with a 78 rpm record and also a set of classic collection of records on display. 

An antique pocket watch, their prized possession caught the attention of one and all. Strategically placed above the poster, it seemed symbolic, as if to say ‘And time stands still’. When Anthtak meets we enjoy and relive not only the past vast repertoire of songs but also the treasured moments we have spent in all the previous meets thereby going back into time, the culmination of the past with the present. 

  36 programmes but the fervour and enthusiasm remain. Each one of us revelled in listening and in singing. The list of songs  is proof to the fun we all had. We had new faces this meet in Anthtak- Keshav and Roopa with their son Abhay, Bharti with her son Anish, Maria with her daughter Harshita and son Anish and Deepa with her daughter Asha Praveen’s transfer to Bangalore is Anthtak’s gain, he once again enthralled one and all with his ‘Ek Chatur Naar’.  Praveen’s father Chandrashekar sang Hai Phoolon ki Raani which was mindboggling. Harsha and Adarsh, the musical duo who have won many accolades in music competitions sang 'Aanewaala Pal' and 'Radhike ninna sarasavidene' brilliantly.  Gopalakrishnan sang 'Uttara Swayamvaram' in Malayalam beautifully.  It was Jaina’s first Anthtak meet after her wedding with Aditya and Mr. Raghuram dedicated a song to them 'Maduveya Ee Bandha'was apt and displayed the true camaraderie that the group members share.

Special mention must be made of Nirmala who painstakingly has captured the entire evening’s proceedings on camera. 

We missed Vijay, Poonam , Geethika, Siddharth, Bharath, Pranitha,  Kishore Panwar, Chitra and Vivek and they on their part missed a fabulous music session indeed.

Food is one of Anthtak’s main point in the agenda. Hot Kachoris, vadas and bondas, biscuits and tea made the first round. The dinner spread of  rotis, capsicum paneer sabji, aloo gobi, dal, pulao, raita, rice, rasam, curd rice and gulab jamun was delicious. 

It was Priya’s birthday on that day and we all sang ‘Happy Birthday’ song for her and she cut the cake thoughtfully ordered by Ram and Rama. What we forgot though was that Ram and Rama too had celebrated their anniversary the same week and though we wished them by mail, we lost out on the opportunity to wish and sing for them in person. Jaina and Aditya too cut a special cake as this was the first Anth Tak they were attending after their marriage. 

The session ended with another new find in Anthtak- Arjun, a young management student of MS Ramaiah College, he was truly amazing. He sang a carnatic number on Lord Ganesha and mesmerized the audience so much that we all craved in for more. His amazing renditions which ended with Jagadhodharana…….. The evening stretched on till 2 am and it was a fitting end to a musical and enjoyable evening. Kudos to Ram, Rama, Ramya and Ramita for making us feel at home and organizing this for us after a long break. 

Hibernation is over but no aestivation please.
