Tere Mere Sapne -Anth Tak - 33

Anthtak met at Rams' this Sunday to make dreams come true. We are all dreamers as Rama rightly says for we sing with a passion and zest that people in their mundane practical lives forget to do amidst their routines. Aptly titled ‘Tere Mere Sapne’, the group met to share and sing their dream songs together with the same fervor and enthusiasm as ever. Whoever would say this was Anthtak number 33.

The Rams had gone into a lot of thought on the theme and matched the ambience of the place with it, the members arrived all armed with the right paraphernalia- books, chits of music, CDs, blackberries to google out the lyrics in an instant, the tabla, the guitar, the mixer and of course the jhatkas and matkas The hall had a banner with the Anthtak logo with the day’s theme- ‘Tere Mere Sapne’-‘ Making dreams come true.’ The walls were adorned with Bollywood sapne songs- Mera sundar sapna beet gaya, mere sapnon ki raani kab aayegi tu, kaun hai jo sapno me aaya to name a few. And there were the pictures of the Dream Weavers- some of the greatest names of Bollywood like V Shantaram, Bimal Roy, Nasir Hussain, Subhash Ghai, Satyajit Ray, people who dared to dream and made a difference to the industry.

The session began with a round of about a dozen of sapne songs and then moved on to other numbers.It was indeed apt that as we celebrated on the eve of the 65th year of our Independence , we exactly recorded 65 numbers during this meet. The song list is attached. The difficult part is how many adjectives of praise do we find to describe the performances of that evening.

Chitra’s ‘Tumhe dekhti hoon to lagta hai aise’ was par excellence, kudos to you for the superfluous rendition.

Vijay- aapki deewaaniyon ki list badti jaa rahi hai- ‘Aap yuhin agar aise gaate rahe dekhiye ek din pyar ho jaayega’ ( we are sure you don’t mind if they are the same deewaanis of the anthtak group each time). Your ‘Agar bewafa tujhko’ still reverberates.

Chandra- your foot tapping numbers this time brought everyone onto the dance floor, ‘Mere pairon mein ghungroo’ and ‘Kaan mein jhumka’ were truly wonderful for the energy and the masti it brought in.

Manak- what would we do without you, you are our Jackson, Presley and Shammi all rolled into one. Your dance to the ‘Mere pairon mein ghungroo’ with Dilip kumar style costume will be ever remembered, we admire your spirit and enthusiasm. It is also indeed amazing that as you are singing you are able to dance. You could have been the Kishore Kumar of the 21st century.

Kishore panwar- You were as always at your best, simple yet making your mark.

‘Ek tan hai, ek man hai, ek pran apne, ek rang ek roop, tere mere sapne’ – The words made just for you both Ram and Rama, you have displayed this everytime when we see the ambience you weave together magically for everyone around to enjoy too. Rama, you were at your energetic best in ‘Konjam nilavu konjam neruppu’- no wonder both numbers got once more requests.

Suchin with his’ Chaudvin ka chand’, Ramya with her ‘ Jaane woh kaise log the jinke’, Keerthana with her ‘Aisa lagta hai’, Venkat and Priya with ‘ Dekha maine dekha hai yeh ek sapna’ were a treat to the ears. The numerous English numbers ranging from the ‘Back to December’ by Geetanjali to the ‘Right Now’ by Kaushik to ‘Yesterday once more’ by Vivek proves the immense talent in the group. Rekha, Imtiaz, Kishore, Rajiv and Mr Malani gave us some very entertaining numbers.

Last but not the least, Praveen who stole the show that evening. An upcoming singer in the Telugu film industry, he treated the group with melodious numbers, each surpassing the other- ‘Mundinam paarthene’, ‘Nenjukkul peidhidum maamazhai’, ‘Krishna nee begane baaro’, ‘Varaha nadi karayil’, we could have listened to him and his guitar all night. “ Ek Chatur naar” was astonishingly brilliant, a hit duet by Kishore Kumar and Manna Dey which two people dread to try as a duet rendered with ease like a duet by a solo singer- Praveen, your talent is unparalleled and wish you all the very best in the music industry. You have the added advantage of an excellent partner in Shailaja, not only does she sing extremely well, we could not help but notice the admiration she has for your style as she enjoyed your ‘Deewana hua badal’ and ‘Ek chatur naar’.

Rajeev- Your ‘Roommates’ made most of us feel nostalgic about those days when mess didn’t seem messy and the younger lot of the Anthtak ,of course, saw themselves in your words. Very entertaining.

Krishnan, our Mumbai Talkies expert, he just rattles off reams and scores of information about Bollywood’s actors, actresses, villains, vamps, singers, music directors and lyricists alike. Bollywood doesn’t need an archive, just Mr Krishnan would do ably supported by his wife Hema.

The anchor Chandra as usual did a fine job of including everyone, the singers, the bathroom singers, the non-singers, the children and the elders alike, signifying the underlying spirit and purpose of Anthtak- de-stress and sing with your heart and in our gatherings that one sings is what matters not how best.

The khana is an integral part of Anthtak. The hot chilli bajjis and the bondas served with cups of hot tea, they were irresisistible indeed. Dinner was a huge spread with rotis, alu mutter dry sabji, paneer n capsicum gravy, dal, pulao n raita, rice, rasam, papad and gulabjamoons. You are indeed gracious hosts, Ram and Rama.

The call for the next meet at Kishore Majumdars’ was a fitting finale to Anthtak 33. Adieu till we meet again at Anthtak 34…………………..

Rama adds - Madhu sang ' Rula ke gaya sapna' with the usual involvement that she exhibits which is very infectious.
